The Experience

You meet at C Dock, slip C-18, ten minutes before departure. The boat leaves Salty Sam's Marina on schedule regardless of traffic, so arriving early matters—beach traffic in both directions can add over an hour to normal drive time. Once aboard, shoes go into a locked box; this is non-negotiable. The vessel is rigorously maintained and looks new, which the operator emphasizes as a point of pride.

The first part of the sail runs under motor through the marked channel, passing the shrimp boat fleet and the homes lining the waterway. Once you clear the channel into open water, the sails go up and the motor shuts off. From there, the route depends on wind conditions: you'll sail toward Fort Myers Beach or within sight of the historic Sanibel Lighthouse. Dolphins, sea turtles and various birds can appear at any time, though the captain makes all weather and safety decisions on the day. The tour runs 2.5 hours total.

The boat holds a maximum of six people, and all children—regardless of age—count as full-price passengers toward that capacity. Children 6 and under are required to wear a life vest; the boat carries child-sized PFDs. Infants must sit on an adult's lap. You can bring your own alcohol (bottles and cans only; no glass stemware or red wine), and restrooms are available on board. Landing and facility fees are included, as is parking. Gratuity is not included; the charter industry standard is 10–20%.
