The Experience

The tour starts at Columbus Square Park in the Passyunk neighborhood, where your guide gathers the group and walks you through the hidden history of how the Philly cheesesteak came to be—you'll talk about it rather than eat one here. From there, the route moves to Washington Avenue, once lined with industrial warehouses and now home to some of the city's best restaurants. You'll stop at a legendary Vietnamese bakery and a longstanding Mexican restaurant known for tacos, picking up two of your six bites along the way.

The Italian Market, one of the longest continually operating outdoor markets in the United States, is where the tour ends. Your guide shares the stories of the businesses there—a fourth-generation Italian bakery, a new-school Jewish appetizing store—and you'll have time to browse the market itself before finishing with a glass of wine from a limited-edition series made in support of one of the market's oldest businesses. Guests 21 and up sip wine; younger guests and those who don't drink have an N/A alternative. Coffee, tea and snacks round out the tastings throughout the walk.
