The experience
Two to four hours on a snowmobile means you cover real ground, from the meadows at lower elevations up through stands of trees and onto the exposed ridges where the panoramic views open up. The terrain shifts as you ride, so you're not on the same slope the whole time. Your guide picks the route based on conditions and takes you where the snow is stable and the sightlines are clear.
The Wasatch Mountains frame the whole ride. Snowbasin and Powder Mountain sit within sight of each other across the ridgelines, and the backcountry between them is where the tour operates. You'll pass through the kind of winter landscape that looks empty until you're moving through it, then you might spot deer or elk at the forest edge, or birds moving between the high meadows. The serenity of the mountains in winter is the point. The speed of the snowmobile is how you reach it.
A live guide leads in English or Spanish, so you get real-time directions and can ask about the terrain as you go. Children from age one can ride along (infants sit on an adult's lap), and the guide adjusts the pace if the group includes younger riders. If you'd rather explore on your own, snowmobile rentals let you set your own speed and find your own stops, but the guided tour keeps you moving with someone who knows where the best views are.

Is this one for you?The ride demands a moderate level of physical fitness and comfort on a moving machine for two to four hours, so it suits riders who can handle the pace and the cold. If you have a spinal injury, this tour is not the right fit. If you're new to snowmobiling, the guide will show you how to handle the machine and adjust the route to match your confidence level.

What's the terrain like on a snowmobile tour in Utah's backcountry?
The route takes you across open snow-covered meadows, through forested sections, and up to ridgelines where you can see the Wasatch Mountains and views toward Snowbasin and Powder Mountain. The landscape shifts as you climb, so you're riding through different terrain types over the course of the tour.
How long does a snowmobile tour last?
Tours run between two and four hours, depending on conditions and the group's pace. You're actively riding for most of that time, covering the meadows, forests, and ridgelines in the backcountry between Park City and Powder Mountain.
What wildlife might I see while snowmobiling in the Wasatch backcountry?
Deer, elk, and birds are common in the area, especially at the edges of the forested sections and in the open meadows. Spotting them is not guaranteed, but the winter landscape and the quiet of the backcountry make encounters more likely than in busier seasons.
