The experience
The snowmobile itself is your starting point: heated handlebars, a full helmet, goggles and a passenger seat if you want to ride double. You'll spend 45 minutes at the Uinta Adventures shop in Kamas getting fitted into your gear before The Adventure Van carries your group up to the trailhead. By the time you reach the trail, your machine is already warmed up and staged, so you step on and go.
The ride climbs toward Mirror Lake through a winter landscape of towering peaks and snow-covered forest. Bald Mountain and Hayden Peak rise on either side as you move through wide-open meadows and pristine backcountry terrain. The guide sets the pace and stops let you take photos or simply stand in the quiet. The trail itself is groomed, not a backcountry bushwhack. You're riding established routes, not breaking trail.
The van is waiting at the trailhead when you finish, and the 15-minute ride back to Kamas gives you time to decompress before heading out. Arrive at the shop 45 minutes before your start time or the group leaves without you. That's the one hard rule.

Is this one for you?Small groups ride together on the same groomed trail with one guide, so you're not alone but you're not on a crowded tour either. The 3-hour format fits a morning or afternoon without eating your whole day, and the van ride means you don't need your own 4WD to reach the mountains.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What's the snowmobile experience like if I've never ridden before?
The guide meets you at the trailhead and gets you comfortable with your machine before the group moves out. The trail is groomed and the pace is set by the guide, not by speed. Beginners and experienced riders go together.
Can I bring my kids on this snowmobile tour?
Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller, but they don't ride the snowmobile itself. Older children who can sit upright can ride as a passenger on the seat behind the driver.
What do I need to bring, and what's provided?
Goggles, helmets, heated handlebars and the snowmobile itself are all included. You'll need to wear or bring your own gloves and boots. The shop can advise on what works in the cold.
How long is the actual riding time versus travel time?
Plan for 45 minutes at the shop for check-in and gear fitting, a 15-minute van ride to the trailhead, then 3 hours of snowmobile riding through the backcountry, with the van ride back to Kamas at the end.
Is Mirror Lake frozen solid when we ride past it?
Mirror Lake is frozen in winter, and the ride passes it surrounded by snow-covered forests and towering peaks. The exact conditions depend on the season, but the trail is groomed and maintained year-round during operating season.
