Cocktail and Mocktail Lab in Seattle: Create Your Own Drinks
You design the drinks; the lab gives you everything to make them real.
The Mad Scientist Cocktail and Mocktail Lab is a two-hour creative class in Seattle where you craft your own drinks from scratch using a fully stocked laboratory with hundreds of ingredients, specialty bar tools, and spirits (alcohol optional). After a lively introduction to unconventional mixology techniques, you suit up in a lab coat and experiment freely—tasting, refining, and building multiple creations with guidance always available but the focus on your ideas, not recipes. Minimum age is 13; contact the operator directly for groups larger than two.
The Experience
What happens if you walk into a bar with no recipes, no step-by-step instructions, and every tool a professional mixologist uses? The Mad Scientist Lab starts with a short introduction to unconventional techniques and unexpected flavor combinations—the kind of bold ideas that don't fit into a standard cocktail class. Then the space becomes yours to explore. You'll put on a lab coat and step into a fully equipped drink laboratory with hundreds of ingredients: spirits, bitters, infusions, specialty syrups, teas, juices, and zero-proof options. The tools are the ones you won't find at home—the equipment that lets you test ideas most bars never try.
For two hours, you experiment freely. There's no step-by-step formula to follow, no "make this drink first, then that one." You craft, taste, refine, and build multiple creations as your ideas evolve. A live guide is there if you want to bounce around a concept or need a technique, but the lab is designed for your curiosity to lead. If you want alcohol, spirits are available for guests 21 and older; if you'd rather explore sophisticated zero-proof creations, that's equally the point. Still and sparkling water, premium mixers, house syrups, and light snacks keep you refreshed and energized between tastings.
No two sessions are the same because no two people create the same drinks. By the end, you won't have followed a recipe—you'll have made something entirely your own.

What's the difference between this and a regular cocktail class?
The Mad Scientist Lab has no recipes or step-by-step instruction. Instead, you get access to hundreds of ingredients and specialty bar tools in a fully stocked laboratory, then experiment freely to create your own drinks. A live guide is available to help, but the focus is on your ideas and creative freedom, not following a formula.
Can I make mocktails instead of cocktails with alcohol?
Yes. Alcohol is completely optional. The lab is equally stocked with zero-proof spirits, premium mixers, syrups, teas, and juices so you can explore sophisticated non-alcoholic creations. Guests under 21 work with the full range of non-alcoholic ingredients.
What tools and ingredients will I actually have access to?
You'll work with specialty bar equipment and tools rarely available outside professional settings, plus hundreds of ingredients including spirits, bitters, infusions, house syrups, teas, juices, and zero-proof options. Still and sparkling water, premium mixers, and light snacks are provided to support your experimentation and keep you refreshed.
How many people can book this experience?
The lab accommodates small groups, but contact the operator directly if you're booking more than two people—they usually have availability and can open up additional space for you.
Is there any instruction, or is it completely unguided?
You get a lively introduction to unconventional mixology techniques and unexpected flavor combinations at the start. After that, the lab is yours to explore with creative freedom. Guidance is always available if you want to test an idea or learn a technique, but the experience is intentionally unscripted so you can follow your curiosity.
What's the minimum age to attend?
The minimum age is 13. Guests under 21 work exclusively with non-alcoholic ingredients, spirits, and tools. Contact the operator ahead of time if you have any dietary needs or preferences.
