The GoCar's GPS kept cracking jokes while we crossed the Coronado Bridge

You drive a silent electric GoCar through San Diego's main sights — Old Town, Gaslamp Quarter, USS Midway, the Coronado Bridge crossing, and Coronado Island's beaches and shops — with a GPS guide that narrates the route, suggests restaurants, and handles navigation for the full 2 hours. The car does the talking; you handle the steering and the views.

Step-by-step itinerary

Explore San Diego and Coronado Island

  • Start tour in Old Town San Diego
  • Cruise through Gaslamp Quarter
  • Pass by USS Midway Museum
  • Cross Coronado Bridge for views
  • Explore shops and restaurants in Coronado
  • Visit Coronado Beach and Ferry Landing

The Experience

The GPS voice started talking before we'd even left Old Town, and honestly, it was weirder than expected — a little too enthusiastic about the Gaslamp Quarter's history, but then it actually landed some decent restaurant recommendations we'd have missed otherwise. The electric GoCar itself is the real draw here: silent motor, open-air, nothing between you and the San Diego skyline except wind and the occasional seagull. Two hours sounds short until you realize you're covering Old Town, the Gaslamp Quarter, the USS Midway Museum from the water, then the Coronado Bridge crossing, and finally the whole Coronado Island loop with its beaches and shops. The car does the navigation — you just steer and listen.

Driving over the Coronado Bridge is the moment the tour earns its spot on your list. The views open up suddenly: the bay spreads out below, downtown San Diego shrinks behind you, and the bridge itself is high enough that you feel like you're floating. The GoCar's top speed is 75mph, so you're not crawling; you move through the city like you actually belong there instead of being herded through it. After the bridge, Coronado Island itself is a different pace — slower streets, the famous Hotel del Coronado visible from the road, the Ferry Landing with its shops, the pristine beaches that actually live up to the name. The GPS keeps narrating, keeps suggesting places to eat, keeps doing its thing, and by then you've stopped noticing how strange it is.

The whole tour runs 2 hours, which means you're not stuck in traffic or waiting for a group to catch up — it's just you (or one other person if you're splitting a car), the GoCar, and the route. If you're bringing more than one person, you'll need to book separate cars, which is worth knowing upfront. The briefing covers the basics, and then you're driving. No guide sitting next to you narrating; no schedule that feels tight. Just the electric motor being quiet while the city talks.
