Step-by-step itinerary
Private bass fishing on Lake Okeechobee
- Arrive at Slims Fish Camp
- Prepare boat and purchase live bait if needed
- Start fishing trip on Lake Okeechobee
- Fish and observe wildlife on the lake
- Return to Slims marina
- Explore Torry Island with camping and trails
The experience
You start at Slim's Fish Camp, where the boat is already in the water and ready. The captain handles the setup while you grab coffee or snacks from the facility: live bait is available here if you want it. Once everyone is aboard, you head out onto the lake itself, where the fishing begins.
The captain reads the water and positions the boat based on what's biting that day, and you cast with premium equipment that's already rigged and ready to use. Most days you'll spot wildlife (otters, alligators, manatees, snakes, birds) moving across the lake between casts. The captain teaches you what to look for and how to work the structure, whether you're after your first bass or your tenth. A Florida freshwater fishing license is required before you book. The captain can advise on how to obtain one quickly if you don't have it yet.
When your time is up, you return to Slim's Fish Camp. If you want to explore a bit more, Torry Island (the only inhabited spot on the lake), has walking trails and picnic tables just offshore, though that's optional. The whole day runs 4 to 6 hours depending on which departure time you choose, and the captain speaks English and Spanish.
