Step-by-step itinerary
Inshore fishing and river exploration
- Meet guide at boat ramp
- Confirm trip details with captain
- Fish and explore St. Johns River
The experience
You meet your captain at the boat ramp before departure, and the two of you spend the morning or afternoon fishing the St. Johns River, the river that runs north, and the surrounding coastal backwaters. The river and estuary system here holds redfish, spotted seatrout, flounder, tarpon, cobia and other inshore game fish depending on the season. Your captain reads the tides and conditions, moving the boat to wherever the fish are active that day and showing you the techniques that work in Northeast Florida waters.
Everything you need to fish is on the boat: rods, reels, tackle, fishing licenses and safety equipment. You don't arrange permits or bring your own gear. The charter works for beginners and experienced anglers alike because the captain personalizes the day around your skill level and what's biting. A good portion of the time is spent on the world-famous St. Johns River itself, though you may also explore the protected backwaters depending on where the fish are holding.
Bottled water is provided. The boat has access to local bathroom and marina facilities. You'll want to bring sun protection (the boat has no T-top or shaded cover), and any food or drinks you prefer to have on the water.
