You spend most of the morning on foot—2.5 of the 3.5 hours in the gorge—which means real time to photograph, explore the state parks and stand in front of each one instead of glimpsing it from a parking lot. Multnomah Falls, Oregon's tallest at 620 feet, gets a front-row parking spot and time to walk the lodge, grab food or browse the gift shop. Latourell Falls drops 290 feet off a basalt overhang and sits right on the route. Oneonta Gorge is a narrow slot canyon where the water runs close enough to touch. Shepperds Dell is a quick stop with a short walk. The tour finishes at Crown Point Vista House, which overlooks the entire gorge—the vantage point most visitors miss because they are driving instead of riding.
