Step-by-step itinerary

Pikes Peak Jeep Tour and Summit Visit

  • Drive up Pikes Peak Highway
  • Stop at Bottomless Pit for photos
  • Visit Glen Cove gift shop and views
  • Quick stop at Crystal Reservoir for pictures
  • Explore Summit Complex and enjoy donuts
  • Walk summit and see interesting sites
  • Return to Jeep and descend

The Experience

The tour starts with a scenic drive up Pikes Peak Highway. Your guide points out the landscape and tells the stories of the mountain as you climb, and the group makes several stops for pictures along the way. The first stop is Crystal Reservoir, where the guide highlights interesting features of the area. As you continue higher, you'll pass Glen Cove, an old stone building that once housed overnight guests and now serves as a gift shop with views of the ranges you're still climbing toward.

At the summit, you reach the newly built Summit Complex, which sits at the top with a large glass window and a platform that nearly circles the whole structure. This is where you can buy the world-famous Pikes Peak donuts, grab drinks or food, and pick up souvenirs. Before heading back down, the group stops at Bottomless Pit, a dramatic near-sheer drop-off that's one of the guides' favorite spots for photographs. After the guide shows you around the summit sites, you get time to explore on your own before returning to the jeep for the drive back.

The jeeps are air-conditioned and carry a maximum of 4 people each (two jeeps per tour), which means a more personal experience than the larger open-air tour vehicles. Bottled water is provided, and all park entry fees are included in the price. The whole tour runs 3 to 3.25 hours. If you prefer to go alone or with just one or two others, private tours are available as a separate booking option.
