The Shoot House is a two-hour indoor firearms training activity in Phoenix where you work with former military instructors to learn tactical room-clearing using pistols, rifles or shotguns loaded with non-lethal training rounds. You wear a uniform and tactical gear, train against electronic reactive targets and role-playing opponents, and receive event photographs. Minimum age is 18. Guides speak English and Spanish.

The experience

What separates this from a shooting range is the scenario: you're not standing at a line firing at stationary targets. Instead, you move through a military-style shoot house with a partner, learning how to clear rooms the way trained personnel do. The instructors, all former military, teach you the tactics first, then put you into situations where you have to apply them. Your weapon choices are an AR-15 rifle, Glock 19 pistol, shotgun or AK47 rifle, all loaded with Ultimate Training Munitions, a non-lethal system that lets you train against 3-D targets and live role-players without the risks of live ammunition.

The two hours start with you in uniform and full tactical gear, which the facility provides. You'll work through the shoot house with a partner, moving and clearing rooms under pressure. The electronic targets react when you hit them, and the role-players add unpredictability. You're solving problems in real time, not just practicing mechanics. Bottled water is included, and you'll get free photographs of the event to take home.
