The experience
The day starts with a flight from Maui to Honolulu, then a drive to Pearl Harbor where you watch a 23-minute documentary about the December 7, 1941 attack before taking a 10-minute boat ride to the USS Arizona Memorial. You'll see the white open-air memorial built over the sunken battleship, views of the oil droplets known as "The Tears of the Arizona," and the Remembrance Wall listing the 1,177 fallen crew members.
From Pearl Harbor, the tour moves to Dole Plantation, where you can browse the Plantation Store for pineapple-themed souvenirs and local crafts, or try a Dole Whip frozen treat. A short walk takes you to the Rainbow Eucalyptus trees with their distinctive multi-hued bark. The drive then follows the scenic route along South Oahu's coastline, passing through the Koolau Mountains and stopping at viewpoints like Nuuanu Pali Lookout, Makapuu Point, and Hanauma Bay.
The Polynesian Cultural Center is the final stop, where you explore six Pacific Island nations (Hawaii, Tahiti, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, and New Zealand) each with its own authentic village. You can take a canoe ride between villages, learn Tahitian spear throwing and Samoan cooking techniques, watch the Polynesian Canoe Pageant, and enjoy a barbecue lunch. The tour ends with time at a North Shore beach near Chinaman's Hat, where you can relax and take in the turquoise waters and lush Kualoa mountain range.
