Parasailing on Maunalua Bay: 600 or 800 feet above Oahu
Rise 600 or 800 feet, drift above the Ko'olau Range, splash down in tropical water
Parasail tandem above Maunalua Bay on Oahu, launching and landing from a custom boat with a professional guide. Soar 600 or 800 feet over the Hawaii Kai coastline and Koko Head, then dip into the water before the boat retrieves you. The whole flight lasts 6 to 8 minutes aloft. The full outing runs about 90 minutes from boat to return.
The experience
You board a boat custom-built for parasailing at Maunalua Bay and get a safety briefing before launch. The boat tows you up to either 600 feet (152 meters) or 800 feet (213 meters), your choice, while you're harnessed in tandem with one other person. The views open across the Hawaii Kai coastline, Koko Head and the Ko'olau Mountain Range. At the peak of the flight, which lasts 6 to 8 minutes, the photo angles are steep enough that most people grin the whole time.
Before the boat winches you back down, you get a water dip: the boat slows and lowers you close enough to touch the tropical water, then retrieves you back aboard. The whole outing (briefing, flight, retrieval and return) takes about 90 minutes. A professional guide in English or Japanese runs the operation. Digital photos and GoPro video of your flight are available to buy afterward. Observers can ride on the boat for a fee and watch from the deck without parasailing.

Is this one for you?Choose the higher 800-foot flight if you want the widest views of the Ko'olau Range and the coastline. The 600-foot option still clears Koko Head and gives you the water dip at a lower altitude. Observers who don't parasail pay a separate fee to ride the boat and watch.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Japanese.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
Can I bring my kids along if they don't want to parasail?
Yes. Observers ride on the boat for a fee and watch the flights without participating. Infants and small children can come in a pram or stroller.
What's the weight range to parasail?
You must weigh between 60 pounds (27 kg) and 275 pounds per person to fly. Tandem flights pair two people, so both need to fall within that range.
How high do I actually go?
You choose between 600 feet (152 meters) or 800 feet (213 meters) when you book. Both heights give you views of the Hawaii Kai coastline, Koko Head and the Ko'olau Mountain Range.
Do I need to know how to swim?
No. The water dip happens while you're still harnessed and the boat is controlling your descent. You don't need to be a swimmer, though a swim suit is recommended.
What should I bring or wear?
Wear a swim suit. There's a small area on the parasail boat to store personal belongings, so bring minimal gear. No alcohol, drugs or marijuana vape pens are allowed before or during the flight.
