The experience

What altitude do you want? 600 feet or 800 feet? That choice is yours before you book, and it shapes what you see. Both flights launch from a boat custom-built for parasailing, so the rigging and retrieval happen on deck without you getting wet until you decide to. You'll fly tandem, which means you're harnessed with another person, and the professional guide handles the parachute while you take in the view: Maunalua Bay spreads below, the Hawaii Kai coastline runs along the horizon, and Koko Head and the Ko'olau Mountain Range frame the whole scene.

The activity runs about an hour from start to finish. You'll meet at Hawaii Kai Shopping Center, where a transfer takes you to the launch spot: departures run every 30 minutes, so timing is built in. Once aboard, you get a safety briefing and introduction before the flight itself, which lasts 6 minutes aloft. Just before landing back on the boat, you take a dip in the water if you want to, then return to the dock. A live guide in English or Japanese leads the whole thing.

Digital photos and GoPro video of your flight are available if you want to capture it, though those come as a separate purchase. Wear a swim suit, skip the spray sunscreen (it's not allowed on the boat), and leave alcohol and drugs on shore. The minimum weight to parasail is 60 pounds. The maximum weight in the parachute is 450 pounds. Pregnant women cannot participate. Infants and small children can come along in a pram or stroller.
