The experience
You arrive at the meeting point as the sun goes down. After a safety briefing and a run-through of snorkeling techniques specific to nighttime conditions, you get fitted with a mask, fins, snorkel, and an underwater flashlight. The guide checks that everything sits comfortably before the group enters the water together in a designated area. What happens next is the draw: the underwater world looks and behaves completely differently after dark. Fish, rays, crabs, octopuses and corals that hide or sleep during the day become active or shift their colors under your light.
The guide leads the group through the water, pointing out creatures and sharing what makes them visible or active at night. The atmosphere is peaceful and mysterious. Nothing like a daytime snorkel. You navigate by flashlight, which changes how you see depth, distance and the animals themselves. After 90 minutes in the water, you return to shore, rinse off, and wait for the underwater video to upload to your phone so you can relive what you saw.
