Private Hell's Revenge 4x4 Tour Moab: 3-Hour Guided Drive
Three hours of steep slickrock, smooth domes, and the legendary Hell's Gate climb
A private 3-hour 4x4 tour on Moab's Hell's Revenge Trail where your group drives one vehicle while a professional guide leads in another, then takes the wheel for the famous Hell's Gate obstacle. Up to seven people fit across both machines. The tour starts from Moab Tourism Center and includes water, snacks and beverages; you pick either 8:15 AM or sunset departure.
Step-by-step itinerary
Private 4x4 Hell’s Revenge tour
- Start at Moab Tourism Center
- Drive Hell’s Revenge Trail
- Drive Fins N Things Trail
- Guide drives Hell’s Gate obstacle
The Experience
You start at Moab Tourism Center and head straight into the backcountry with your guide leading in a separate 4x4. The trail itself is the draw: Hell's Revenge crawls over slick rock, along cliff faces, and up terrain steep enough to feel like a roller coaster. You're behind the wheel for most of it, driving the second vehicle with up to three other passengers while your guide navigates the route ahead. The sandstone shifts under the tires—smooth domes, sudden drops, the kind of terrain that looks impossible until you're actually climbing it.
What makes this private is the pace and the attention. Your guide explains the geology and history as you move through the landscape, and because it's just your group, there's no queue at the tricky sections or anyone else's schedule to keep. The real highlight comes at Hell's Gate, one of Moab's most famous slickrock climbs. Your guide takes over the wheel here and drives you up the obstacle—a near-vertical ascent that shows you what these machines can do. Water, snacks and beverages are included throughout.
The tour fits up to seven people total: three can ride in the guide's machine, and up to four drive the second one. This setup means you're not watching from a passenger seat the whole time—you get the actual driving experience. Hell's Gate is subject to weather and trail conditions, so it may not run on every departure, but when it does, it's the moment the whole tour builds toward.
What’s included
- Your professional guide leads the route and takes the wheel at Hell's Gate.
- bottled water, snacks and beverages throughout the 3 hours.
- the private 4x4 vehicles with seating for up to seven across both machines.
Operated by Moab Tourism Center
Is this one for you?Choose the 8:15 AM departure if you want the full heat of the day on the rock and the best light for photos; pick sunset if you prefer cooler temperatures and the red rock glowing as the light drops. Either way, the private format means no other groups on the trail, so the pace stays relaxed and your guide can focus on your group's experience.

What is Hell's Revenge Trail actually like to drive?
Hell's Revenge is a slickrock trail outside Moab that climbs over smooth red rock domes, runs along cliff edges, and includes near-vertical pitches. The surface is petrified sandstone, and the trail is designed to test both vehicle and driver—steep enough to feel like a roller coaster, but the 4x4 is built for it.
Do I drive the whole time or does the guide drive?
You drive for most of the 3-hour tour in your own 4x4 vehicle while the guide leads in a separate machine. At Hell's Gate, the guide takes the wheel and drives you up that famous obstacle so you can experience it as a passenger.
How many people can come on this private tour?
Up to seven people total: three can ride in the guide's vehicle, and up to four can fit in the machine you drive. A minimum of two people per booking is required.
What time does the tour start?
You choose between an 8:15 AM departure or a sunset departure when you book. Both start from Moab Tourism Center.
What's included in the price?
The tour includes your professional guide, the 4x4 vehicles, bottled water, snacks and beverages throughout the 3 hours. Gratuities are not included.
Is Hell's Gate guaranteed to happen?
Hell's Gate is subject to weather and trail conditions, so it may not run on every departure. When conditions allow, your guide will drive you up this legendary slickrock climb as the highlight of the tour.
