The Experience

Hands gripping the roll bar tighter than I’d admit, I watched our guide—Sam, who grew up here—grin as he steered the Hummer up what looked like a wall of rock. The first lurch over petrified sand dunes made my heart pound (and yeah, I might’ve yelped), but then the view just opened up. You could smell the dust in the air, that dry, sun-baked scent you only get in Moab. Sam pointed out a line of dinosaur tracks pressed right into the stone—he said they’re over 150 million years old.
