Summary

Moab’s wild slickrock climbs, laughter and the Colorado River below

You’ll drive your own UTV across Moab’s famous Hell’s Revenge Trail with a local guide leading the way—feeling every bump and laugh along slickrock climbs, pausing high above the Colorado River to take in those impossible views. Small group size means you get to ask questions or just soak up the moment—and yeah, you’ll remember that feeling long after.

experience

What’s the experience like?

The first thing I noticed was the crunch of gravel under our boots—then, honestly, my nerves. These Side x Side UTVs look like something out of a sci-fi movie, but our guide—Jake, local through and through—just grinned and handed me the keys. “Don’t worry,” he said, “the rocks look scarier than they are.” I’m not sure I believed him at first. The smell of sun-baked sand and engine oil mixed in the air as we buckled in. My hands were already a bit sweaty.

Driving up those petrified sand dunes on the Hell’s Revenge Trail is…well, it’s hard to explain. It feels like the ground shouldn’t be possible—slickrock that rolls and dips like a rollercoaster you steer yourself. Jake radioed tips as we went (“Ease off here!”), but mostly let us figure things out. At one point my partner squealed (not naming names) when we hit a steep drop; I just laughed because honestly, my stomach was somewhere near my shoes too. You see Moab differently from behind that wheel—the colors are sharper somehow, reds and golds everywhere.

We stopped at the overlook above the Colorado River—800 feet up—and it was quiet except for wind and someone’s water bottle rolling around in their seat (that made us all laugh for some reason). You can see into Arches from there if you squint past the haze. Jake told us a story about his dad guiding here before him—he pointed out a spot where he’d camped as a kid. That stuck with me more than I expected.

I still think about that view sometimes—the silence after all that engine noise, how small we felt above the river and those endless red rocks. It wasn’t perfect driving (I may have stalled once), but maybe that’s what made it real.
