Step-by-step itinerary

Segway tour along Ocean Drive

  • Meet at 233 14th Street
  • Receive Segway training
  • Glide along Ocean Drive
  • See Art Deco hotels and façades
  • Explore South Beach strip

The Experience

How much of South Beach can you actually see in half an hour? Enough to understand why Ocean Drive matters. You arrive 30 minutes early for training — learning to balance, steer and stop on the Segway before the guide leads you onto the strip itself. The route stays on Ocean Drive, the famous stretch where the Art Deco buildings line up: hotels with their original façades, restaurants, shops, all of it facing the ocean. A guide rides with you, pointing out the architecture and the history as you glide past.

The Segway does the work; you just lean and shift your weight. It takes a few minutes to feel natural, but the training covers it. You'll wear a helmet and a wireless earpiece so you hear the guide over traffic noise. Water is included — you'll want it after thirty minutes of concentration and the Florida sun.

The tour operates in all weather, so bring a light rain jacket if the forecast looks uncertain. Wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothes. Check in at 233 14th Street, which sits one block from the beach, so parking and public transit are both nearby. A minimum of two people per booking keeps the group small; the guide speaks English or Spanish.

Is this one for you? You're riding the Segway yourself — not watching a demonstration — so this suits anyone who wants to move through South Beach under their own control and see the Art Deco strip at a pace faster than walking but slow enough to actually look around. If thirty minutes feels too short for a full-day tour but you want to experience the neighborhood without renting a car or joining a bus, this one fits the time you have.

Top questions

How much training do I need before the Segway tour starts?

Training happens at the meeting point before the tour begins, so you learn to ride right there. A few minutes of practice with the guide covers balance, steering and stopping — most people feel comfortable on the Segway by the time you roll onto Ocean Drive.

What is Ocean Drive actually like when you're riding down it?

Ocean Drive is the heart of South Beach's Art Deco district, lined with historic hotels, restaurants and shops facing the water. You pass the famous façades and the ocean itself, all at Segway pace, which is slow enough to take it in but fast enough to cover the strip in thirty minutes.

Do I need to be fit to ride a Segway for thirty minutes?

The Segway is suitable for all physical fitness levels — the machine does the movement, and you control it by shifting your weight. You do need to be in good health, weigh between 100 and 260 lbs., and be at least 12 years old to participate.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day of my tour?

The tour operates in all weather conditions, so rain or sun, the ride goes ahead. Dress appropriately for the forecast — a light rain jacket works well, and closed-toe shoes are required either way.

Where do I meet the guide, and is parking easy to find?

You meet at 233 14th Street in Miami, one block from the beach. Public transportation options are available nearby, and parking is accessible in the South Beach area.
