itinerary

Step-by-step itinerary

Day 1 — Zipline and ATV adventure in Maui

  • Arrive at zipline location
  • Complete safety briefing
  • Ride ATV along course
  • Cross largest suspension bridge
  • Zipline over 200-foot valley
  • Enjoy ocean and mountain views

The first thing I remember is the sound—wind rushing past my ears, then just this wild silence as we stepped onto the platform. Maui’s green just hits different from up here. Our guide, Kaleo, grinned and said something about “flying like the nene geese,” which made me laugh (I’m still not sure I’d call what I did flying). The dual zipline part was actually more fun than I expected—my friend and I took off at the same time, yelling over the trees. You can see the ocean in flashes between branches, but it’s mostly just you and all that air.

I didn’t expect to feel nervous about the suspension bridge. It’s 360 feet long—apparently Hawaii’s biggest—and when you’re halfway across, it sways a bit with every step. Someone behind us started singing softly (nerves maybe?), and for a second it felt like we were in some kind of movie scene. The smell of wet leaves stuck with me; it had rained earlier so everything was extra lush. Kaleo kept cracking jokes about “don’t look down” which honestly didn’t help but made us laugh anyway.

Before the ziplines even started, there was this quick ATV ride up muddy tracks—nothing too wild, but enough to get a little splash on your shoes (bring old ones if you care). We met a couple from Oahu who’d never done anything like this either; everyone swapped stories while waiting for our turn to clip in. There’s a weigh-in before you start—strict rules, no exceptions—which makes sense once you see how high up everything is. I still think about that view from the last line—sun breaking through clouds over both mountains and sea—and how small everything felt for a minute.
