Rappel down waterfalls and rainforest cliffs in a private canyon on Maui's Road to Hana over three hours, using anchored ropes and professional equipment under expert instruction. All gear, including shoes, is provided. The guide adjusts the route if water levels rise, pivoting to 40- to 115-foot cliffsides instead. Minimum age is 10, and participants must weigh between 70 and 250 lbs with a waist measurement between 22 and 48 inches. The activity runs rain or shine, and you'll hike through streams, walk natural trails and swim in freshwater pools.

The experience

You descend into a private rainforest valley using an anchored rope system, controlling your speed as you rappel down waterfalls and jungle cliffs. The guide manages the technical setup and stays with your group throughout, teaching you how to use the equipment and coaching you through each descent. Because this is the rainforest (it rains at least part of every day), the water level and flow change constantly. When streams flood and the falls roar too high to rappel safely, you switch to the cliffsides instead, dropping 40 to 115 feet from dry rock at a distance from the water course. Either way, you're descending into the same landscape featured in Jurassic Park.

Between rappels, you hike through streams on natural trails and swim in freshwater pools carved into the rock. The whole outing takes three hours. All professional gear is included (harness, rope, helmet, shoes), so you show up ready to move. Seasonal snacks are provided, and the guide handles all the technical calls about water safety and route adjustments. You'll need moderate fitness and the ability to walk and hike unassisted. The minimum age is 10, and weight and waist measurements must fall within the operator's safety range (70–250 lbs, waist 22–48 inches), which are checked at check-in.

Four departure times run daily: 8:00 AM, 9:15 AM, 11:45 AM and 1:00 PM. Pick the one that fits your schedule. The guide speaks English fluently, and children are welcome as long as a legal parent or guardian signs the permission form and stays with them throughout the activity.
