The Experience

Someone in a sparkly jacket is waving us down the aisle, and I’m still trying to figure out if that’s part of the act or just how things work at the Excalibur Hotel & Casino. The place smells faintly like popcorn and, weirdly, bubblegum. Our seats are closer than I expected—close enough that I can see Mac King’s tie (it’s got tiny fish on it). It feels like everyone’s in on some inside joke.

Mac keeps pulling people from the audience—one guy couldn’t stop giggling when he had to hold a paper bag (I would’ve been worse). There’s this bit with his guinea pig “Colonel Sanders” that I still don’t totally get, but honestly, it didn’t matter. The show moves fast—one minute he’s making his head disappear inside a bag, next he’s invisible (or pretending to be), and you’re left squinting at your own hands like maybe you missed something obvious. He talks to us like we’re old friends, not just random folks who bought tickets for a day trip in Las Vegas.

I heard someone say no two shows are alike because Mac King riffs off whatever happens in the crowd—felt true tonight. Even my dad got called out for his loud laugh (he’ll never live it down). The whole thing is family-friendly but never cheesy; even when I thought I saw how a trick worked, he’d twist it around again.
