The experience
The Wekiva River is a National Wild and Scenic River, which means the wildlife stays put and the water stays clean. You'll paddle past alligators, wading birds, otters and manatees in their actual habitat, not a zoo, not a tank, but the river itself. Your guide is a certified kayak professional trained in first aid, and the group stays under 10 people so you're not paddling in a line of strangers. The kayak, paddle and personal flotation device are all provided, top-of-the-line gear that handles the river without fuss.
The paddle down takes you through significant points in the local ecosystem. Your guide shares what's actually happening in the water and the banks as you move through it, not a script, but real knowledge of the place. Halfway through, you pull over for a swim break in the protected waters, a chance to cool off and float in the river itself before the leisurely paddle back. The whole outing runs 2.5 hours from start to finish.
Bottled water and trail snacks come along, so you're fueled for the paddle. Wear quick-dry clothes and water shoes or sandals you don't mind getting wet. Bring a swimsuit, sun protection, and a towel. The river is wheelchair accessible, and the launch area and all surfaces are accessible as well.
What’s included
