The experience
You arrive at iFLY Fort Lauderdale and start with a specialized training session led by a certified flight instructor. They walk you through how to position your body and move safely inside the wind tunnel before you ever step into the flight chamber. The instructor covers the basics so you understand what to expect when the airflow kicks in: no prior experience required, and questions are part of the setup.
Once training is done, you enter the enclosed flight chamber for your first flight. The tunnel operator slowly increases the wind speed until you lift off the ground, floating in a wall-to-wall cushion of air. You'll experience wind speeds reaching 130 to 175 mph, the same conditions professional skydivers use, except your instructor stays right there with you the entire time. Each of your two flights lasts 60 seconds: short enough to feel controlled, long enough to feel the real thing. Between flights, you have a moment to catch your breath and reset.
The whole session takes about 75 minutes from arrival to certificate. You fly one-on-one with your instructor for both flights, even though the facility can run up to six people in a single session. All gear is provided and included in the price, along with your personalized flight certificate to take home. Wear lace-up sneakers and comfortable clothes. The facility handles the rest.
