The experience
You've got a free afternoon and no car, or you're staying in Denver and want to get into the mountains without driving yourself. This tour picks you up and takes you out on a 4+ mile hike that moves through three distinct landscapes: aspen forest with a stream running alongside, a mountain meadow full of wildflowers, and finally a rocky overlook where the trail ends next to the lake. A trained local guide leads the way and talks through the ecosystems and wildlife you encounter, so you're learning as you walk.
The hike takes about five hours total, which includes the time on the trail itself plus the drive from Denver and a chance to stop at a local brewery afterward if you want to. You'll get bottled water and a snack along the way. In winter months, snowshoes and poles are provided, so the route stays open and the landscape just changes: snow-covered forest and meadow instead of wildflowers, but the same overlook and the same views. The group stays small, capped at eight people, so the pace stays manageable and the guide can actually talk to everyone.
What’s included
- Bottled water and a snack (granola bar or trail mix).
- complimentary snowshoes and poles in winter months.
- live guide in English throughout the hike.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What's the hike actually like, is it steep the whole way?
The trail climbs gradually through aspen forest and along a stream, then opens into a mountain meadow before the final push to the rocky overlook by the lake. It's not a scramble, but it is a steady climb over four miles, so moderate fitness is what the operator asks for.
Do I need to bring my own hiking boots or gear?
Bring sturdy hiking boots and dress for the weather. Water and a snack are provided. In winter, snowshoes and poles are included, but you'll need to bring your own snow boots to wear under them.
How does the brewery stop work at the end?
After the hike, the guide takes the group to a favorite local brewery if anyone wants to go. It's optional. You can skip it and head back to Denver instead.
What time does the tour start and how do I get picked up?
Public transportation options are available nearby to reach the meeting point, or arrange your own pickup with the operator when you book. The full tour runs about five hours from start to finish.
