Step-by-step itinerary

Hala Tree Coffee Farm Guided Tour

  • Stroll through coffee orchards
  • Learn about sustainable coffee farming
  • Discover coffee harvesting and processing
  • Engage in coffee roasting experience
  • Taste premium Kona Coffee

The Experience

The tour starts in the coffee orchards themselves. A guide walks you through the rows where the red cherries hang on the trees—these house the Kona beans the farm is known for. You'll learn what goes into growing them here, including the farm's approach to sustainable practices, and hear the history of the estate. The guide explains the difference between what happens in the field and what comes next.

From there, you move into the roasting process. You get to experience the art of it firsthand—watching and smelling the beans as they transform. This is where the coffee goes from green to the rich brown you recognize, and the guide walks you through why the roasting matters to the final flavor. By the time you reach the tasting, you understand what you're tasting and why it tastes the way it does.

The tasting happens on the lanai with an ocean view. You choose three coffees from Hala Tree's menu and they're served to you in French presses. This is not a quick sample—you sit with each one, and the guide talks through the flavor notes and what makes each distinct. Groups of four or fewer also receive a complimentary helicopter flight as part of the experience.

Is this one for you? You're here to understand coffee from the ground up, not just taste it—the orchards, the roasting and the tasting all connect, so you leave knowing why this coffee tastes the way it does. If you prefer to watch a demonstration rather than be hands-on with the roasting, ask about what the guide's role is before you book.
