Grand Teton sunset tour from Jackson Hole: wildlife and peaks
Four hours watching the Teton peaks, two lakes, historic barns and the wildlife that lives between them
A private sunset tour of Grand Teton National Park departing from Jackson hotels with a local guide, park entry fees, binoculars and a picnic dinner included. The guide leads you through the park's top wildlife habitat—searching for grizzlies, bison, moose and pronghorn antelope—while stopping at Jackson Lake, Jenny Lake, the Moulton barns of Mormon Row and Oxbow Bend, where the Snake River reflects Mt. Moran. The tour runs four to five hours and operates rain or shine; children from age six are welcome, and non-US residents pay an additional park fee of $100 per person at the start.

The Experience
The tour picks you up from your Jackson hotel and heads straight into the park. Your guide knows where the resident wildlife tends to move through the day—grizzlies, bison, moose and pronghorn antelope—and the route is built around the light and the season. You'll stop at Mormon Row to photograph the iconic Moulton Barn with the Tetons rising behind it, a shot that works best in the golden hour the sunset tour is timed for. Ground squirrels scatter across the meadow; the barns themselves date to the early 1900s and sit exactly where the mountains meet the valley floor.
Jenny Lake comes next, a glacial moraine at the base of the range. From mid-May through September, the tour includes a 60-minute scenic boat ride on the lake itself—the only time you're on the water rather than looking at it. Jackson Lake, fed by the Snake River from the north, spreads below the same peaks. The real payoff is Oxbow Bend, a curve in the Snake River where Mt. Moran reflects in still water on a calm evening. This is where the guide's binoculars earn their place: white pelicans, trumpeter swans and blue herons show up regularly, and grizzly bears and beaver sometimes do.
You'll carry binoculars throughout, and a picnic dinner—your choice of turkey and provolone, ham and Swiss, roast beef and cheddar, or a veggie sandwich—comes with you. The guide handles the park entry fee, so there's no separate ticket to buy at the gate. Dress for the weather; the tour runs whether it's clear or raining. Service animals are not permitted, but children from six onward ride along fine.
