Kayak through Fort Pierce's mangrove tunnels in a clear kayak for roughly 2 to 2.5 hours, paddling past dolphins, manatees, turtles and wading birds while a live guide shares facts about the area. The route includes stops on shallow sandbars to search for marine life up close, then returns to the launch site in time for the Fort Pierce sunset. Clear kayak, life preserver, paddle instructions and dry bag are included.

The Experience

You arrive and check in right away so the time on the water stretches as long as possible. The guide gives basic paddle instructions and safety information, then loads you into the clear kayak. The paddle lasts about 2 to 2.5 hours depending on the group's pace and any wildlife you encounter along the way—turtles, dolphins, manatees, various fish and birds all move through these waters. The clear hull means you watch the bottom as you go, not just the surface.

The route zig-zags toward the Fort Pierce inter-coastal, then into the mangrove tunnels where the shade cuts the paddle effort and the trees narrow the view to what's directly around you. The guide points out local plant life and wildlife, and stops at a couple of shallow areas and sandbars where you can get out, wade and search for marine life in the shallows. On the way back to the launch site, the light shifts and the Fort Pierce sunset fills the western sky over the water.

The clear kayak, life preservers, paddling instructions and dry bags for small personal items are all included. A live English-speaking guide is with the group throughout. Children from age 1 are welcome, though infants must sit on an adult's lap. The park has other amenities worth exploring if you arrive early.
