Master forward strokes, reverse strokes and sweep techniques in three hours on the water.

A 3-hour kayaking fundamentals class in Florida teaches paddling strokes, safety, launching and landing with an ACA-certified instructor. Participants learn forward stroke refinement, reverse stroke, and forward and reverse sweep techniques. Kayak rental, paddle and life vest are available if you don't bring your own gear; the class runs rain or shine except during lightning.

The Experience

The class starts with the strokes that matter most: forward stroke refinement, reverse stroke, and forward and reverse sweep. An ACA-certified instructor walks through each one, whether you're starting from scratch or refining technique you already have. The focus stays on what makes paddling efficient and safe, not just moving the boat forward.

You'll also cover launching and landing, how to read the water, and what to wear and carry. The instructor explains kayaking safety in practical terms—how to hold the paddle, how to sit, what happens if you tip and how to get back in. Bring an extra bottle of water for Florida's heat, and a waterproof dry bag if you have valuables you don't want soaked. If you have your own kayak and gear, bring them; otherwise, kayak rental, paddle and life vest are available.

The class runs three hours, rain or shine. The only cancellation trigger is lightning. Groups with five or fewer participants may be cancelled as late as two hours before start time if enrollment is low, so book early if you're planning to go.
