The experience

Forty-five minutes in the sled bag behind a team of working sled dogs is the core of this activity. You travel along the Buffalo Fork River, a National Scenic Riverway and tributary to the Snake River, on private trails across the pastures of Heart Six Ranch. The route stays flat and moves through terrain where no snowmobiles or motorized vehicles are permitted. The only sound is the dogs, the runners on snow, and the river alongside you. The Tetons frame the entire ride.

The Buffalo Fork River itself is what makes this different from other sledding runs in the region. It is a protected waterway that flows in front of the ranch and continues downstream through Grand Teton National Park and Bridger-Teton National Forest. Riding parallel to it for the full forty-five minutes means the landscape does not change. You stay in one river valley with the same mountain views the whole way, rather than looping through varied terrain. The trail is suitable for any age and any fitness level because it is so flat. The only physical demand is sitting in the sled.

You pick your departure time at checkout: 9am, 10am, 11am, 1pm, or 3pm. A live guide in English handles the dogs and the sled. The sled itself is included in the booking.

What’s included

  • Use of the sled.
