The experience
You arrive with your group (at least six people to make the tour run), and meet your fellow riders on the trolley. The captain goes over the route and the stops, and you settle into your seat. The trolley is electrically assisted, which means your pedaling moves it forward but the motor does the heavy lifting. You're not grinding uphill or straining to keep pace. As you pedal through Columbus neighborhoods, you choose which partner stops to hit for the discounts they offer, and the captain steers the route to fit your picks. The stereo plays, you can sing along, and the ride lasts two hours.
The trolley itself is built for a group. It seats up to 36 people, and five of those seats don't require pedaling. They're there for anyone who wants to ride without the leg work, or for people with limited mobility. Seatbelts, seatbacks, grip bars, and a padded back bench keep everyone secure whether they're pedaling or sitting still. From mid-November through mid-March, the trolley is fully enclosed, so weather doesn't stop the tour. A cooler and ice come with the ride, and you bring your own alcohol: beer up to 36 ounces or wine up to 18 ounces per person. No liquor or glass containers allowed. Everyone on board must be 21 or older to drink, though younger riders can join if accompanied by a parent, spouse or guardian (and they don't drink).
The minimum group size is six riders, and if your booking doesn't hit that number, the tour is subject to cancellation. Each person fills out a liability waiver before boarding. The captain is sober and stays that way, so navigation and safety are handled while your group focuses on the ride and the stops.
