The experience
Can you actually learn to make sushi in two hours? Yes, and you'll walk out with two rolls you made yourself. The class starts with the foundation: preparing and seasoning sushi rice so it has the right texture and flavor. Then you move to knife work, slicing fresh avocado, cucumber, bell peppers and scallions with guidance on technique. The pace is relaxed, so there's no pressure to be perfect. The point is to understand how each step works.
You'll assemble two rolls: a California roll with nori, sushi rice, surimi, avocado and cucumber, then a veggie roll packed with cucumber, avocado, bell peppers and scallions. The instructor shows you how to layer the fillings, roll everything tightly without it falling apart, and slice each roll into neat pieces. By the end, you have a sushi feast you made, and the skills to do it again at home. The venue is a welcoming local space in Columbus, and the atmosphere stays social and low-key throughout.
All materials (rice, vegetables, nori, tools, everything you need to cook) come with the class. If you have dietary restrictions or preferences, let the organizer know in advance and they'll adjust the ingredients to suit you. Drinks are available for purchase at the venue's bar if you want something to go with your meal.
