Includes up to three bar visits.★ 4.79 (120)2hUS$ 35View › I’ll admit, I didn’t expect to laugh so much on a historical city bus tour in Charlotte. I thought it’d be all facts and dates, but our guide (Miss Tanya—she’s got this warm Southern drawl) had us guessing which house belonged to the “medicine man” before she even finished her story. The bus itself was actually comfy—AC humming, big windows letting in that late morning light as we rolled past Bank of America Stadium. You could smell kettle corn from the Market at 7th Street when we first boarded, which made me hungry way too early.
We stopped at Old Settlers’ Cemetery, and for a second it was just quiet except for some birds and the crunch of gravel under everyone’s shoes. Tanya pointed out a headstone from the 1700s—she told us about Revolutionary War heroes buried right there. I tried to picture what this part of Charlotte looked like back then. The Fourth Ward was next; the houses are painted these faded blues and yellows, porches full of potted plants. A woman waved from her stoop like she knew half our group (maybe she did?).
The best surprise? We got a discount at Rí Rá Irish Pub after the tour—my sandwich tasted extra good after walking around in that sticky Carolina heat. And don’t get me started on the fruit water at It’s Poppin! Kettle Korn—cold, sweet, not too sugary. The whole day felt like someone handed you a set of keys to Charlotte’s weird attic full of stories. There were families with little kids (kids under four ride free), older folks swapping stories with Tanya, even a couple Panthers fans arguing about last season as we passed the stadium. I still think about that old Bootlegger house… something about its creaky porch stuck with me.
