The Experience
The day starts at the meeting location near Beehive Bend, where you'll board an air-conditioned shuttle for a 15-minute ride upriver to Banks, ID. Once there, a licensed guide runs through a safety meeting before you push off into the main Payette River. The 7-mile stretch ahead is known for some of Idaho's best whitewater. You'll paddle through named rapids like Go Left or You're Fired, Bennett's Rock, and AMF, all class II and III, with enough space between them to catch your breath and float past riverside wildlife.
You operate the paddle and the raft. The guide reads the water and calls the line through each rapid. All required gear (personal flotation device, paddle, helmet if you want one) comes with the trip. The river itself does the work of moving you downstream, so the physical demand stays manageable even for families bringing kids. Between the rapids, the current slows enough to swim or just drift and look at the canyon walls and trees.
The trip ends back at Beehive Bend, where the shuttle brings you back to the starting point. You'll get free action shots taken during the run, and day parking at the takeout is included. The whole experience runs about two and a half hours from start to finish.
