ATV Riding Las Vegas: Night Dune Buggy Chase
You're in the driver's seat of your own dune buggy, chasing your guide across the dark desert.
Drive your own dune buggy on a 50-minute nighttime chase across a 15,000-acre off-road recreation area near Las Vegas. After hotel pickup and a safety briefing, you'll operate a custom-built buggy equipped with a roll cage, four-point harness and lights as you navigate dunes, hills, valleys and washed-out creek beds. The small group stays under seven riders, and your guide leads the way across roughly 20 to 25 miles of terrain.
Step-by-step itinerary
Nighttime dune buggy chase experience

- Receive safety briefing and gear up
- Drive dune buggy across desert terrain
- Chase guide's buggy for 50 minutes
- Return to Las Vegas hotel
The experience
You get picked up from your Las Vegas hotel in the evening and driven to a sprawling off-road recreation area just outside the Strip. After a thorough safety briefing, you're outfitted with a full face helmet, goggles and gloves, then set up in a one-seater dune buggy custom built for desert terrain. The buggy has a roll cage, four-point harness and lights. The controls are straightforward: gas pedal, brake and steering wheel like a regular car.
Once you're behind the wheel, you chase your guide's buggy across 20 to 25 miles of challenging ground: dunes, gravel, hills, valleys and washed-out creek beds. You drive as fast as you want under the desert stars for roughly 50 minutes of actual ride time. The small-group format keeps it to seven riders maximum, so the terrain stays intense and the pace stays yours to set. After the chase, you're driven back to your hotel.
Your total time away from the hotel is about three and a half hours, which leaves the rest of your evening open for other Las Vegas plans. The ride time itself is 50 minutes, so you're covering real distance in the dark without the full-day commitment of a longer excursion.

Is this one for you?The three-and-a-half-hour total time, with 50 minutes of actual driving, fits an evening slot without eating into your whole night, so you can still hit the casinos or clubs afterward. If you want a longer desert experience or a full-day commitment, look for an all-day off-road option instead.

Top questions
What's the terrain actually like on a dune buggy ride in the Las Vegas desert?
The 15,000-acre recreation area features dunes, gravel flats, hills, valleys and washed-out creek beds: a mix of soft sand and hardpacked ground that keeps the ride varied and challenging. You'll navigate all of it in your own buggy, following your guide's lead.
Can I really drive the dune buggy myself, or does the guide do it?
You operate the dune buggy yourself. It has a gas pedal, brake and steering wheel just like a regular car, so if you can drive a standard vehicle, you can drive the buggy. You chase your guide's buggy across the terrain at your own pace.
Do I need a driver's license to ride?
Yes. You must be at least 16 years old with a valid driver's license to operate the buggy. Drivers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, and photo ID will be required.
What safety gear do I get, and how much does the buggy protect me?
You're provided with a full face helmet, goggles and gloves. The buggy itself is equipped with a roll cage, four-point harness and lights, so you're secured and visible as you drive across the desert at night.
How long is the actual driving time versus the total tour duration?
Your ride time in the buggy is approximately 50 minutes. The total tour duration is about three and a half hours, which includes hotel pickup, the safety briefing, gear setup and the return drive to your hotel.
