The Experience

First thing that happened: our guide (Marcus—he said he does standup at the Laughing Skull) asked if anyone brought wine. A woman in the back held up a can of rosé and everyone cheered. The market smelled like fried chicken and coffee; someone came back with a donut as big as their face.

I liked how nothing was off-limits (they warn you: R-rated). There was this moment when we passed Martin Luther King Jr.'s childhood street—Marcus got quiet for once, told us just enough to make me want to come back on my own.
