The Experience
The tour runs five hours and covers three distinct sections of Atlanta in a single morning or afternoon. You'll travel through Buckhead to see the historic community, stately mansions and Lenox Square shopping district; move into Midtown to pass the Fox Theatre on Peachtree Street and visit Atlantic Station, described as a city within a city; then head Downtown to see Centennial Olympic Park, the Coca-Cola Museum, Georgia Aquarium, CNN headquarters, State Farm Arena and other major attractions. The Swan House, built in 1928 for the Inman family and now part of the Atlanta History Center, appears on the route—every room features swan imagery and the house has been featured in several films.
Which attraction you enter depends on when you travel. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings include a tour of the first floor of Georgia's Governor Mansion, where you'll see the grand dining room, kitchen and gardens. Tuesday through Saturday, the tour enters the Jimmy Carter Museum to walk the gardens, lakes and rose garden. Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, you visit Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Park on Auburn Avenue, where you'll see Ebenezer Baptist Church, the Eternal Flame, the gravesites of Dr. King and Coretta Scott King, and the Birth Home of Dr. King's grandfather, Rev. A.D. Williams. Sunday and Monday, the stop is Ponce City Market, the converted Sears Building catalog division now housing shops and dining. All entry fees to whichever attraction your date includes are built into the price.
The route also passes through neighborhoods and markets that show how locals move through the city. You'll see Little Five Points with its history and culture, visit Krog Street Market on Tuesday through Saturday to stretch your legs and eat like a local, and drive past the Fabulous Fox Theatre. The vehicle is air-conditioned throughout, and the guide provides live commentary in English.
