The Experience

What happens when you trade the city for sand and stay out past sunset? The evening desert safari from Sharjah picks you up from your hotel in a 4x4 Land Cruiser and heads straight into the open desert, where the real driving starts. You'll spend roughly 30 to 45 minutes dune bashing — the vehicle tilts and drops across the red dunes while you hold on and watch the light change. There's a photo stop in the middle of nowhere, then the pace slows as the sun gets lower and the sky turns orange.

Before the camp, you'll ride a camel and try sandboarding if you want to. The Bedouin camp itself sits in the quiet part of the desert, and when you arrive, someone hands you coffee and dates — the traditional welcome. You can walk around at your own pace, try on Arabic clothes for photos, and get henna painted on your hands. The fire show and belly dance happen around the campfire later, and there's a tanoura dancer too. Shisha is free, and the BBQ dinner comes with soft drinks, water and vegetarian options if you need them. The whole thing is 7 hours door to door, and the guide speaks English the whole way.
