Navigate the souks where Dubai's traders have worked for generations, not where tour buses queue.

A guided shopping tour of Old Dubai's three main souks (gold, spice and textile) with hotel pickup, a traditional abra boat ride across Dubai Creek, and a guide who negotiates prices with shop owners on your behalf. The tour runs 4 to 5 hours and includes mineral water. Gold purchases qualify for VAT refund. A moderate level of fitness is needed for walking the narrow souk streets.

The experience

You get picked up from your hotel in a 4x4 or coach with an English-speaking guide, then head straight to the Dubai Gold Souk in old Dubai: the largest gold market in the Middle East. The guide's negotiating skills matter here: shop owners expect it, and the guide works the price down on your behalf. Gold sold in the souk qualifies for VAT refund, a detail most solo shoppers miss. From there you move to the Spice Souk, where the stalls are stacked with saffron from Iran, dried fruits, cardamom and other aromatics that fill the narrow lanes with scent. You can buy souvenirs, dates and traditional Arabic dress here too.

The abra boat ride across Dubai Creek is the oldest transport between Bur Dubai and Deira, and it breaks up the walking. Once you cross, you're in the Textile Souk in the Fahidi district, where you'll find antique textiles, clothes and electronics, then finish at Meena Bazaar, a sprawling market for gold, dry fruits, saffron, shoes and traditional suits. The tour avoids the malls you could reach alone and focuses instead on the working souks where residents shop, including the fake market where counterfeit designer goods sell openly at a fraction of mall prices. Mineral water is provided throughout.

The narrow streets and the pace of the souks mean you need moderate fitness to keep up. Wheelchair access is available in some areas, and infants under 2 travel free, but the tour is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health or pregnancy. Dress is casual, though modest clothing is practical in the souks. Traffic can shift the exact timing, so the 4 to 5 hour window is approximate.

Is this one for you?Book this tour if you have a free afternoon and want to shop where Dubai residents actually buy, not where tour groups queue. The guide's price negotiation at the gold souk saves money, and the abra boat ride is included. Two things you'd arrange separately or miss entirely on your own.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, Hindi and Urdu.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (4 to 10 years); Infant (under 4): free.

What's the Dubai Gold Souk actually like when I get there?

The Dubai Gold Souk is the largest gold market in the Middle East, located in old Dubai with hundreds of shops lining the narrow streets. Your guide negotiates prices with the shopkeepers, and gold purchases here qualify for VAT refund: a tax break most tourists don't know to ask for.

Do I need to arrange my own transport to the souks, or is pickup included?

Pickup from your hotel is included in the tour, along with drop-off at the end. You travel by 4x4 or coach with your guide, so you don't need to arrange separate transport.

What's included in the price besides the souks?

The tour includes hotel pickup and drop-off, a professional English-speaking guide, mineral water during the tour, and a traditional abra boat ride across Dubai Creek. Shopping is your own expense, though the guide's negotiating skills help you get better prices at the gold souk.

Is this tour different from the Old and New Dubai City Tour option?

The Dubai Shopping Tour focuses on the three main souks (gold, spice and textile) with time to browse and buy at each stop. The Old and New Dubai City Tour is a broader sightseeing option that covers more of the city's landmarks beyond shopping.

How much walking is involved in the souks?

The tour involves walking through narrow souk streets at a moderate pace for several hours. You'll move between the gold souk, spice souk, textile souk and Meena Bazaar, with a break for the abra boat ride across the creek. Moderate fitness is needed to keep up.
