The Experience

The drive east from Dubai crosses into a landscape most visitors never see. You travel through Al Dhaid, an oasis city built on fruit and vegetable plantations, then stop at Masafi's Friday Market to browse local crafts and goods. The Hajar Mountains rise on both sides as the route descends toward the coast, passing through Dibba Al-Hisn, a small fishing village where you have time to walk the port and watch the boats.

Lunch happens at a local beach resort on the Indian Ocean, and you get time to swim in the Gulf of Oman before the afternoon stops. Al Badiyah Mosque, built in the 15th century, is the oldest mosque in the Emirates and sits on a hillside overlooking the coast. In Fujairah City, the recently renovated Old Fort stands as a photo stop, and the tour ends at Al Bithnah, a verdant oasis surrounded by date palms and gardens. The whole day runs eight hours from pickup to drop-off, with an air-conditioned vehicle and a guide who speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian or one of two other languages. If any site is closed during your visit, your guide arranges an alternate stop.

You can discuss changes to the itinerary with your guide on the day; if you want to add an entrance fee not included in the package, you pay the guide directly. Summer temperatures on the east coast can reach 42–45 degrees Celsius with humidity above 90 percent, so lightweight clothing, sunglasses and a hat are essential, and the operator recommends taking precautions against the heat.
