The experience

The 4x4 arrives at your hotel in Dubai or Sharjah as the sun begins to drop. You ride to the red dunes in a Nissan Patrol or Land Cruiser, and once there, safety gear and instructions go on before you take the quad bike across the sand yourself: no experience needed, and the ride lasts around 30 minutes. This is where the evening splits from a standard dune-bashing tour: you're not watching the desert move past the window.

After the quad biking comes a short camel ride for the photo stop, then a dune bashing session where the driver takes over and navigates the steep red slopes while you feel the full force of it. Sandboarding follows. You walk up a dune and slide back down on a board. By the time the camp appears on the horizon, the light is nearly gone and the tents are already lit.

The camp serves Arabic tea and coffee when you arrive, then opens into henna painting, traditional photo setups, and a sequence of live performances: belly dance, Tanoura, fire shows, Dabka and Yola dances running through the evening. The BBQ buffet includes vegetarian and non-vegetarian mains, fresh salads, Arabic sweets and fruit. Water and soft drinks flow unlimited.
