The Experience

We were already bouncing along in the back of a Land Cruiser when I realized how far Dubai’s city lights had faded behind us. The Lehbab Desert looked like something out of an old story — just endless red dunes and that weird, dry silence you only get in the desert. Our driver, Khalid, grinned in the mirror before gunning it up a dune so steep I thought we might tip over (we didn’t). My friend screamed and then laughed so hard she started hiccuping. Sand got everywhere — shoes, hair, even my teeth somehow.

I didn’t expect to like the quad bike part as much as I did. There’s this moment when you’re flying over the sand and all you hear is the engine and your own breath. The sun was low by then, painting everything gold-red. A couple of local kids waved at us from their camels — they looked amused watching us city people try to look cool on ATVs. After that rush, we tried sandboarding (I wiped out), then wandered into camp where the smell of grilled chicken mixed with sweet shisha smoke.

The camp felt busy but relaxed — big cushions everywhere, lanterns flickering as it got dark. Some women were getting henna tattoos; I almost did too but chickened out because my skin’s fussy. Our guide poured tiny cups of Arabic coffee for us (bitter but good) while someone else helped me wrap a headscarf for photos. Later on there was belly dancing under the stars and a fire show that actually made me nervous for the guy spinning flames so close to his face. The food was way better than I’d expected — fresh salads, baklava that stuck to my fingers, barbecue everything. I still think about that first quiet moment after dinner when everyone just sort of looked up at the stars and didn’t say much.

Your day includes doorstep pickup from your hotel in an air-conditioned Land Cruiser for 25-30 minutes of dune bashing across Lehbab’s red dunes (or longer by request), plus a 30-minute quad bike ride with helmet provided.
