The Experience

The 4WD picks you up from your hotel and drives 60 minutes into the Lahbab desert. Once the vehicle hits the sand, the driver drops the tire pressure and starts the dune bashing — 30 to 45 minutes of sharp climbs and sudden drops that throw you sideways in your seat. The sun is dropping fast, turning the dunes gold and then orange. You stop for photos as it touches the horizon, and that's when the light gets almost unreal. After that, the vehicle heads to Al Khayma Camp, where the real evening begins.

At the camp, you're greeted with Arabic coffee, dates and sweets before the activities start. You can ride a camel, stand for photos with a falcon after the falconry show, and get dressed in traditional Arabian clothes — kandura for men, abaya for women — if you want. The henna painting happens in one corner, shisha smoking in another. Then the entertainment kicks in: the Traditional Yola dance, a falconry demonstration, and a massive fire show that lights up the whole camp. All the while, the 5-star open buffet is laid out with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian BBQ, local desserts, and unlimited soft drinks. It's a lot happening at once, but the pacing lets you move between things without feeling rushed.

When the sky goes dark and the stars come out, that's when the stargazing session starts. A guide brings out a telescope and walks you through the constellations, telling old Bedouin stories about how the stars guided desert travelers centuries ago. By the time you head back to your hotel, you've done dune bashing, eaten a proper dinner, watched three different shows, and spent time looking at the night sky — all in one evening. The whole thing takes roughly 5 to 6 hours from pickup to drop-off.
