The experience

Pickup happens from wherever you're staying in Dubai (hotel, apartment, villa), and you're driven in a Land Cruiser straight into the Lahbab Desert. The dune bashing itself runs 40 to 45 minutes of hard acceleration up and down the red sand, the kind of driving that feels reckless until you realize the driver has done it a thousand times. You'll stop for photos in the middle of the dunes during sunset, with a photographer on hand to capture you against the light.

Once the sun drops, the camp takes over. You sit on cushions at low tables while an international buffet and BBQ come out: vegetarian and meat options both. Arabic tea, coffee and fresh fruit arrive first as a traditional greeting. Soft drinks, tea and iced water flow through dinner. The entertainment is continuous: a belly dance show, a Tanura dancer in a spinning skirt, and a fireworks display.
