The experience

The drive from your hotel takes you to Al Madam, where the dunes rise red and steep. Once there, you spend 30–40 minutes dune bashing in an air-conditioned vehicle. The driver handles the wheel while you feel the vehicle climb and drop across the sand. A quad bike or buggy ride breaks up the driving, so you're not just watching the landscape shift.

At the camp, the activities start without ceremony. You can ride a camel across the sand, try sand skiing down the dunes, or sit for henna painting on your hands. Shisha pipes are set up for smoking, and as the light fades, the entertainment begins: belly dancers and tanoura dancers perform, then a fire show lights up the camp.
