The experience

The day starts at Lahbab, the meeting point where you get your first taste of the desert on a quad bike. Thirty minutes on the ATV lets you feel the sand and the machine before the guide takes over the driving. After that, you climb into a fully air-conditioned Land Cruiser and head deeper into the dunes for dune bashing: the vehicle pitches and rolls across the sandy peaks while you hold on and watch the landscape shift beneath you. The 4x4 does the work. You experience the rush without operating it.

Between the driving comes everything else the desert evening includes. You'll ride a camel, try sandboarding on the slopes, and get henna painted on your hands while the sun drops toward the horizon. The guide is a professional English speaker, so questions about the landscape, the wildlife or the culture get answered as you go. The vehicle has a restroom on board and air conditioning that actually works: small things that matter when you're six or seven hours into the day.
