The experience

You get picked up from your Dubai hotel and driven to the Red Dune Desert near Al Madam. After a short restroom break, you ride a quad bike for 30 minutes through a designated desert area. This is the part where you're in control of the machine, not watching from a passenger seat. The terrain is open enough that you can feel the speed without technical obstacles getting in the way.

Once the quad biking ends, the driver takes over and the 4x4 begins dune bashing: the vehicle climbs and descends the highest dunes in the area, and halfway through you stop to try sandboarding and take pictures. The pace is fast enough to feel the thrill without being a white-knuckle ride. By late afternoon you arrive at the Bedouin evening camp, where the real entertainment begins: a short camel ride, henna painting for women and kids, and a BBQ dinner with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. Unlimited soft drinks, tea, water and coffee are available throughout. The live shows (Tanoura dance, belly dance and fire show) happen during dinner. After the shows end, the driver brings you back to your hotel.

The whole experience runs about seven hours from pickup to drop-off. During Ramadan and certain public holidays, the live entertainment shows don't run due to government restrictions, though the rest of the day (the quad biking, dune bashing, camel ride and dinner) stays the same.
