The experience

The 4x4 Land Cruiser picks you up from your hotel and heads into the desert, where the real drive begins. Dune bashing (the roller-coaster sensation of climbing and dropping down the golden sand dunes) fills the first part of the afternoon. The driver handles the vehicle while you feel the shift and sway of the terrain. It is the kind of off-road experience most travelers do not get a chance to do. As the sun drops lower, the dunes turn warm orange and the light softens across the sand.

Once you reach the Bedouin campsite, the pace slows. You can ride a camel for a short stretch, get henna art painted on your hands, and settle into the camp's corners where hubbly bubbly is available. The welcome includes Arabic coffee and fresh dates. Dinner is an international BBQ buffet with vegetarian options, served under the open sky with unlimited mineral water.
