The experience
The day starts with a scenic drive east to Jinja, Uganda's adventure hub, where you board a boat on Lake Victoria. The cruise takes you to the exact point where the Nile River begins its northward journey: a rare vantage on one of the world's most storied waterways. Your guide shares the history of the river's discovery as you pass local birdlife and take in the calm water. After the boat ride, you'll have breakfast at Sikia, a Rolex and coffee stop in Jinja that supports the deaf community.
The route then turns west toward Kayabwe and the Equator Line, Uganda's most famous geographic landmark. Here you stand with one foot in the Northern Hemisphere and the other in the Southern, and your guide walks you through the Coriolis effect with a live water experiment that shows how drainage patterns shift across the equator. Lunch happens at a local restaurant right at the line itself, giving you time to absorb the oddness of the place. Nearby craft markets sell handmade souvenirs and equator-themed pieces if you want to take something home.
The full day runs about eleven hours door to door. Air-conditioned transport and an English-speaking guide are included, as are admission fees at both sites and both meals. Pickup is arranged from your location. If you're staying outside Kampala, an extra transportation fee applies.

Top questions

Yes. Ticket types: Youth (16 to 25 years); Child (11 to 15 years); Infant (5 to 10 years). Children under 5 can't be included in the booking.
What exactly happens on the boat ride at the Source of the Nile?
The boat crosses a peaceful stretch of Lake Victoria and takes you to the exact spot where the Nile River begins flowing northward. Your guide shares stories about the river's discovery and global significance while you watch for local birdlife and take photographs of this rare meeting point between a great lake and a legendary river.
What is the Coriolis effect experiment at the Equator?
Your guide demonstrates how water drains differently on either side of the equator using a live water experiment. It's an educational highlight that shows the real physics of standing on the equator line itself, and it's a popular moment for photos.
