The experience
The trek itself is the centerpiece. You report to park headquarters at 7 AM for a briefing on conduct around the gorillas, then set out with your guide into the forest. The search can take anywhere from 2 to 7 hours depending on where the families have moved. Once located, you spend an hour watching them in their routine. After returning to the starting point and receiving your trekking certificate, lunch follows at your lodge.
The afternoon of day two shifts to the Batwa Pygmies, the forest's original inhabitants. A guided cultural tour lets you learn their daily practices and relationship to the land. Bwindi itself is layered: beyond the gorillas, the forest supports over 300 bird species and a landscape of steep, vegetation-covered hills that frame the entire experience. Accommodation at Broadbill Forest Camp anchors both nights.
Getting there takes 9 hours from Kampala on day one. The drive back on day three follows breakfast. Hotel or airport pickup is included, so the logistics of departure are handled. The trek demands moderate fitness and an early start, but the payoff is unmediated time with the animals themselves: no glass, no distance, just the forest and the gorillas moving through it.

Is this one for you?The trek runs 2 to 7 hours on steep forest terrain, so plan for an early start and a full day of walking. If you have spinal injuries, are pregnant, or have cardiovascular concerns, this tour is not suitable. The three-day structure gives you one full trekking day and one cultural afternoon, which suits travelers who want the gorilla encounter without committing to a longer expedition.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English, French and German.
How long does it actually take to find and see the gorillas on the trek?
The search through Bwindi can run 2 to 7 hours depending on where the gorilla families are located that day. Once you find them, you spend one hour observing the group before returning to the starting point.
What is the Batwa cultural tour and when does it happen?
The Batwa are the forest's original inhabitants, and the guided tour on day two afternoon lets you learn about their daily practices and their connection to the land. It follows lunch after the morning trek.
Do I need to be very fit to do the gorilla trek?
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is steep and densely vegetated, so at least a moderate level of physical fitness is needed. The trek can last up to 7 hours, though the pace is set by the guide and the terrain itself, not by speed.
What's included in the three days and what do I need to arrange separately?
The tour includes hotel or airport pickup, all transport to and from Bwindi, park entry, accommodation at Broadbill Forest Camp, the guided gorilla trek, the Batwa cultural tour, and a live guide in English, French or German. Air tickets, insurance, and alcohol are not included.
